BG&E Resources was initially engaged to extend the existing Ultrafines Iron Recovery Circuit, consisting of 7 WHIMS (Wet High Intensity Magnetic Separation) units, by an extra three units which included adding six new cyclone clusters, LIMS (Low Intensity Magnetic Separation) and WHIMS units, 12 new Oversize screens and associated hoppers and pumps. The WHIMS 1.5 project also involved the addition of a new thickener, feed tank with agitator, all associated piping and a new switchroom. The above additions would allow the WHIMS circuit to run in either rougher (10 units) or in rougher / scavenger (7 rougher and 3 scavenger) unit mode.

As an additional opportunity to improve the fines recovery, a spirals circuit was added to the above to treat the screen oversize with additional spirals banks and dewatering cyclones. The spiral circuit further consists of 4 agitated tanks, screens and associated pumps configured to operate as three discrete operating modules.

The design scope included a fully developed, multi-disciplinary detailed design to allow the client to execute the project. The scope was broken into 2 main separable portions, consisting of the initial 3 WHIMS modules, with all the brownfields interfaces to existing services and plant, and the second separable portion consisting of the 3 Spirals Circuit modules.
