The port component included a purpose built, world class iron ore port facility at Port Hedland capable of receiving, stockpiling, screening and exporting 55Mtpa of iron ore as lump and fines. The in-loading circuit comprised a rail loop, car dumper, apron feeders, conveyors, two ore stackers and the lump and fines product stockpiles. The out-loading circuit comprised a reclaimer, lump re-screening plant, sample station, ship loader, associated conveyors and two berth wharf.
The role of Project Director Infrastructure Project Director Delivery, for the entire project and Contract Superintendent for the majority of the construction contracts was undertaken by BGER personnel. The role encompassed all aspects of the works from engineering, procurement, contract management, construction and project management. Other roles included Roy Hill Engineering Manager, Roy Hill Approving Authority Manager, Commissioning Manager for the Mine and Mine Process Plant Project Manager.
