Rio Tinto engaged BG&E Resources to undertake the engineering design for a new shutdown facility at the Brockman 4 iron ore mine site.

Our collaborative teams provided project deliverables across multiple engineering disciplines including project management, civil, structural and concrete, mechanical and piping, and electrical and instrumentation.

The objective of this project was to build a purpose-built shutdown facility that provides a modern facility to meet people requirements and create a productive and inclusive environment, replacing the existing outdated shutdown facility. Our work will enable scheduled shutdowns at one of the world’s leading iron ore production sites to operate more safely and efficiently.

Located 60 km north-west of Tom Price in Western Australia’s Pilbara region, this world-class facility has a targeted production of 40 million tonnes per annum. It forms a significant part of Rio Tinto’s integrated network of mines, port terminals, rail network and related infrastructure.
