Connected by Water: Conference Recap

One of the most precious natural resources on the planet is water. As professionals operating in the Water sector, we have a responsibility to help clients deliver sustainable water management, as well as to assist communities in understanding the future needs of industry and the impacts on their environment.

BG&E Resources (BGER) is proud to be a Member of the Australian Water Association (AWA) and last week it was a pleasure to participate in the AWA’s 2024 Connected by Water Conference.

The Conference explored many themes, including:

  • powering seawater desalination with solar;
  • mitigating the impacts of climate change on water assets;
  • nature-based solutions to preserve wetlands from damage from harmful algal blooms;
  • future-focused groundwater management plans;
  • government’s approach to optimising adaptation strategies; and
  • evaluations to aid water supply/management for hydrogen production, to name a few.

The conference provided a great platform for BGER to engage with our client organisations, water authorities, government, and industry. Topics covered over the three days focused on the way water underpins economic prosperity, communities, the environment, and Indigenous connection to Country.

Nat Horsfield, Lead Hydrologist at BGER says, “It was great to hear from leaders in industry and government about themes which are truly shaping the future of the Water sector, in Australia and globally. Themes such as application of circular economy principles, sustainable water treatment, the importance of integrated planning and of course, climate change resilience.”

BGER’s Water Lead, Scott Henderson and fellow Hydrologist, Charles Finlay, joined Nat at the Conference.

Considering the significant volume of Resources and Energy projects that Australia is bringing to market as part of the energy transition – the time to pursue responsible, affordable, and energy-efficient water solutions is now.
